2014 Ford Escape

2014 Ford Escape

The 2014 Ford Escape is a very sporty mid-sized crossover option. The Escape can come equipped with optional fuel efficient EcoBoost engines that feature turbo charged technology, and deliver quick acceleration and high performance. The Escape features the cleverly engineered foot activated power lift gate. This highly innovative feature, called the Intelligent Access, allows you to open the rear tailgate simply by waving your foot under the bumper, perfect for that busy mom onthe go with her hands full of grocery bags. What’s not so perfect for that busy mom is the interior space; while adequate for most, it is noted that the Escape features one of the smaller interiors in this class. The Escape offers the latest Ford MyTouch system for smartphone integration and Bluetooth technology, but many reviewers have complained that this system is complicated to use. This SUV does provide excellent handling on the road.

2014 Honda CR-V

Stepping into the 2014 Honda CR-V; that same busy mom, is going to love the ever-so-spacious interior and the simplicity of the layout. The interior is more basic than the high-tech Ford Escape, but many people favor a more simplistic and easier to use set-up. The CR-V achieves slightly better fuel economy than the Escape. The ride inside the CR-V is better and smoother. The CR-V has earned a reputation for being very reliable and very dependable. This SUV will get you through varied weather conditions with ease and you will have no difficulty pulling into the soccer field. However, the CR-V is not built for off-roading, rather for premium pavement performance. For the more tech savvy busy mom, there is optional Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity.

And The Winner Is…

For this head-to-head competition, I am going to call the 2014 Honda CR-V the winner. The mid-size crossover segment is really all about maximum cargo space while achieving the best possible fuel economy. The CR-V is much bigger inside than the Ford Escape and gets slightly better fuel economy. While The Escape looks a bit sportier all around, I believe the CR-V is more true to its class by offering a no-thrills, family friendly safe vehicle that sure to please busy moms everywhere. Now, the base model does come in about $1500 more than the Escape, but considering Honda’s well-deserved reputation for dependability, I think the little extra is more than fair. It comes as no surprise to me that the CR-V has been the top selling SUV in the Canadian market for years now.
