2014 Volkswagen Golf

The 2014 Volkswagen Golf maintains its position as one of the best hatchbacks in the history of mankind. It has been there for 40 years and though there’s a lot of competition out there, Volkswagen Golf remains a premium and one of the most coveted models in its class. The 2014 Volkswagen Golf Canada price starts at $37,355.
The 2014 Volkswagen Gold is easy to drive and it will give you a comfortable and quiet ride. It has strong brakes, almost comparable with the Ford Focus. Its higher price proves its worth by offering quality ride and refinement, which is a complete edge over sub-standard materials that cheaper vehicles offer. Although its base model’s price starts below $20,000, you might not be totally satisfied with its five-cylinder engine that produces 170 horsepower. If you need a little boost, there’s the GTI with more powerful engine and sportier design. The TDI diesel model, on the other hand, is the priciest of them all. It has 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine that produces 140 horsepower, combined with six-speed manual. You can also go for the DSG six-speed dual-clutch automatic as an option. It is actually more convenient than the usual automatic as it makes quicker and crisper shifts. Although the TDI comes a bit pricey, it is indeed a fuel-efficiency champ with fuel economy ratings of 36.2 L/100km for city and 50.43 L/100km.
Though the 2014 Volkswagen Golf has nicely put features, it lacks some of the fancy features that posh vehicles have. Although we understand that the Golf might want to make things simple, it wouldn’t hurt to have at least a Bluetooth function on all the models, and not only on TDI. It would also not be bad to add more advanced safety features. Since they are re-designing the Golf for 2015, it is expected that future models will enforce some advanced safety features like lane-departure warning and adaptive cruise control, which the 2014 VW Golf currently doesn’t have.

2014 Ford Focus

The 2014 Ford Focus proves that a small car can be fun, stylish, creative, and affordable. The Focus has looks good inside and out and you will be surprised on how well-equipped it is. No wonder, it is considered as one of the best cars of the year. The cabin appearance took some leap of faith in terms of design and styling, and it was good! Although some says that they have gone too far, most customers are generally happy with its unique and dashing looks. In fact, the 2014 Ford Focus will make your heads turn even if it’s surrounded with other small cars. The 2014 Ford Focus Canada price starts at $15,999.
Its engine is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that can produce 160 horsepower through a five-speed manual transmission. Alternatively, you can go for a six-speed PowerShift dual-clutch automatic. You might also be interested with the new Focus ST that can go up to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds. With an engine that can produce 240 horsepower through a six-speed manual transmission, the Focus ST is one of the hottest cars that enthusiasts are dying to have. It also has electric power steering system that performs well and gives precise control while on the road.
Overall, the 2014 Ford Focus is versatile, spacious, and advanced small car. If it has a bad side, it has to be the over styled dash that can be distracting especially for front seat passengers. It is relatively roomy, with enough head and legroom in both sedan and hatchback, although it might take you a while to adjust to it if you are used to having a midsize car. Another thing you might be happy about it that it comes with leather upholstery.
In terms of safety, the Ford Focus has achieved 5 star ratings on the NCAP Overall Score and IIHS Tops Safety Pick. Overall, it is hard not to take a second look on it and consider taking it home. Although the base model is indeed basic, it has standard features like CD player, air conditioning, and tilt/telescopic steering wheel.

And The Winner Is…

Volkswagen is Volkswagen. Their years of continuing legacy is undeniably strong, but it also comes with a hefty tag price. Alternatively, Ford also has built a good name and reputation for years. Both of the cars are definitely awesome but if we were to choose between 2014 Volkswagen Golf and 2014 Ford Focus, we will go for 2014 Ford Focus. Aside from it’s more affordable, Ford Focus gives you precise steering that lets you enjoy composed and refined ride. Its edgier styling is also a big plus and it gives you plenty of options and add-ons in case you want to upgrade it. With Ford innovating its products constantly, you can expect some exciting features and accessories for your car in the next years.
