The 2014 Ford Edge Vs The Jeep Grand Cherokee

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Move over Ford Edge, here comes the most awarded SUV with an all-new diesel engine option to boot! That’s right, there is now a V6 Ecodiesel engine option for the Grand Cherokee that matches the Edge for best in class fuel economy at 7.8 L/100 km highway! However, this diesel engine is a bit noisier than some of the other new diesels on the market. The newly refined exterior styling makes the Grand Cherokee more gorgeous than ever, now with squared off enhanced headlights, the front end takes on a more refined appearance. Another highlight is that all 2014 Grand Cherokee models come with a standard 8-speed automatic transmission which is a remarkable for ride quality and fuel economy. UConnect, the infotainment system offered by Chrysler, is perhaps the best Sync system available, it’s easy to use and very responsive. If you plan on doing some serious off-roading, this is the SUV to do it in. The ground clearance is excellent and with optional air suspension, it can be increased. This SUV was built for going up and down steep hills with ease. The towing capacity for the diesel engine option is twice that offered by the Ford Edge. That brings me to my next point, the price reflects all these extra capabilities. A 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee can run you from $39,995 to $62,995.

2014 Ford Edge

Having a definite edge over the competition in its price range (keep in mind the Grand Cherokee is not in this price range), the 2014 Ford Edge offers a more traditional crossover style than some of the newer station wagon like SUVs and it is the biggest option for this price. Who doesn’t love a massive panoramic sun roof? I know I do, and the Edge delivers with a huge optional sun roof. Inside the Edge the ride is quiet and smooth and the interior elicits an upscale feel. A positive point for the Edge is that Sync comes standard across the model line. However, if you want the touch screen you will have to upgrade. A negative point is that the MyFord Touch system is a bit lagging at times and it’s not the most responsive infotainment system out there. With prices from $30,999 to $43,599, the Edge is a much more affordable option than the Grand Cherokee. An interesting aspect of the pricing is that the V6 engine comes as standard and you have to pay more for a 4-cylinder, which seems a little backwards. In recent years, the Edge has been making a definite impact and more and more consumers are choosing the Ford Edge for their new ride.

And The Winner Is…

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out who is going to win this head to head competition. By all rights the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the better vehicle. Offering twice the towing capability and dramatically better off-road performance, this SUV is definitely equipped for all terrains and all weather. It’s not every day that the bigger, tougher and more capable SUV can match the best in class fuel economy offered by the competition and that credit goes to the diesel engine option. These capabilities do not come cheaply, and the price of the Grand Cherokee reflects that. It’s all about what you as the consumer really needs. If you do not plan on doing any serious off-roading or hauling heavy loads, then the Ford Edge may suit all your needs perfectly with a price that also suits the needs of your budget. Keep in mind, the Ford Edge is one of the bigger and brawnier SUVs in its class without the high sticker price of the Grand Cherokee. If you are looking for fantastic deals on a 2014 Ford Edge or a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, be sure to check out New Car Sell Off first, where you will find amazing deals on both these models.
